How to Set Reminders on WhatsApp in Hindi, Hinglish or English

Blog · 15 Oct 2026 · 7 min read
In short
  • WhatsApp is made for talking, not for reminders, so people use notes, stars and phone alarms. They all need extra steps.
  • With Tuffy you write or say the reminder in your own words, such as 'kal subah 9 baje yaad dilana', in your 'Message yourself' chat.
  • A voice note works as well as text. Hindi, Hinglish and English are all understood, and Tuffy answers in the language you write.
  • Reminders can repeat (every night, every 1st of the month), and you can snooze one when the time is not right.
  • It works for work and for home: invoices, medicine, bills and birthdays.

Why WhatsApp alone is not enough for reminders

Many people ask: how do I set a reminder in WhatsApp? The honest answer is that you cannot. WhatsApp lets you chat, call and share. It does not let you say 'tell me about this message tomorrow at 9 am'.

This is a real gap, because WhatsApp is where the reminders are born. A customer says 'call me after lunch'. Your mother says 'don't forget the electricity bill'. A friend says 'send me the photos on Sunday'. The need appears in the chat, but the tool to remember it is somewhere else.

For a person who runs a business, a forgotten reminder has a price. A late payment follow-up, a missed call with a buyer, a GST date that slips by. At home the price is smaller but it hurts more: a skipped dose of medicine, a late fee on the electricity bill, a birthday you remembered a day too late.

The ways people try today

Before we look at a better way, here are the usual tricks. Each one works a little. Each one has a limit.

1. Write it in your own chat

You open 'Message yourself' and type 'Pay LIC premium on 15th'. This is the simplest method. The limit: the note does nothing at all on the 15th. It sits there and waits for you to scroll.

2. Star the message

You star the message you must act on. The limit is the same: a star is a bookmark, not a bell. It does not know about the date.

3. Use a phone alarm

You open the clock app, set a time and name the alarm 'Call Mehta'. This does ring. But it takes six or seven taps, and by evening you have forgotten who Mehta was and what the call was for.

4. Use a separate reminder app

A to-do or reminder app is good, if you open it. Most people do not want one more app for a small thing like 'ask Kavita about the tickets'.

Set a reminder in WhatsApp with Tuffy

Tuffy lives in your own WhatsApp, in the 'Message yourself' chat. You link it like WhatsApp Web, by scanning a QR code or typing a code, so there is no new app. After that, setting a reminder is just a message.

A good reminder has two parts: what, and when. Say them in any order, in any language you like. You do not need special commands or a fixed format. Write the way you would tell a helper standing next to you.

1. The same reminder in three styles

Kal subah 9 baje yaad dilana ki bijli ka bill bharna hai
Tuffy
Theek hai. Kal subah 9 baje main yaad dilaunga: bijli ka bill bharna hai.
Remind me on Friday at 4 pm to send the invoice to Mehta
Tuffy
Done. On Friday at 4 pm I will remind you: send the invoice to Mehta.
कल सुबह 9 बजे बिजली का बिल भरने की याद दिलाना
Tuffy
ठीक है। कल सुबह 9 बजे मैं आपको याद दिलाऊँगा: बिजली का बिल भरना।

2. How to say the time

These are the sentences people use most. Copy one and change the words.

  • Kal subah 9 baje yaad dilana ki Suresh ko advance bhejna hai
  • Parso shaam 5 baje Ravi ko call karna hai, yaad dilana
  • 2 ghante baad yaad dilana ki dawai leni hai
  • Agle Monday ko GST return ke liye yaad dilana
  • Remind me tomorrow at 8 am to book the cab
  • Remind me in 30 minutes to call the supplier
  • Remind me on the 25th to pay the rent

3. Tips for a good reminder

  • Name the person. 'Call Mehta' is better than 'make a call'. Next week you will thank yourself.
  • Give a day and a time. 'Later' is not a time. 'Tomorrow 5 pm' is.
  • One reminder, one job. If you have three jobs, send three lines. They are easier to snooze and to finish one by one.
  • Add the reason if it is not obvious. 'Call Mehta about the pending 40,000' tells you what to say before you pick up the phone.

Set it by voice note

Sometimes typing is hard. You are driving, cooking or carrying bags. Press the microphone in your 'Message yourself' chat and speak. Tuffy understands voice notes in Hindi, Hinglish, English and other languages. It sets the reminder and writes back what it understood, so you can check it.

A voice note is also a good way to set several reminders at once. At the end of a busy day, speak for thirty seconds and say everything that is on your mind: who to call, what to pay, what to buy. You do not need to organise it first. Tuffy picks out each job and writes back what it set, so you can check.

Always read the reply once. It takes two seconds and it catches a wrong word before it becomes a missed task.

Voice note, 8 seconds: Suno, kal shaam 6 baje mummy ko phone karna hai, aur yaad dilana ki unki dawai khatam ho rahi hai
Tuffy
Maine do reminder lagaye hain. Kal shaam 6 baje: mummy ko phone karna. Aur dawai khatam ho rahi hai, iska yaad dilana bhi kal shaam 6 baje. Sab theek hai?
Haan, theek haiBadlo

Repeating reminders and snooze

1. Repeat it

Some things come back again and again. You should not have to set them each time. Say how often, and Tuffy repeats the reminder.

Har raat 10 baje yaad dilana ki papa ki BP ki dawai leni hai
Tuffy
Theek hai. Har raat 10 baje main yaad dilaunga: papa ki BP ki dawai.
Every 1st of the month remind me to send the rent
Tuffy
Done. On the 1st of every month I will remind you: send the rent.

2. Other repeats you can ask for

'Every Monday at 10 am, remind me about the team meeting.' 'Har Sunday shaam ko yaad dilana ki plants ko paani dena hai.' When you no longer need one, tell Tuffy to stop it.

3. Snooze when the time is wrong

The reminder arrives at 9 am, but you are in the middle of a meeting. You do not want to lose it and you do not want to set it again. Just snooze it.

Tuffy
Reminder: Suresh ko advance bhejna hai.
DoneSnooze 1 hourKal
Snooze 1 hour
Tuffy
Theek hai. Ek ghante baad dobara yaad dilaunga.

4. Snooze by typing

You can also type it: 'snooze 30 minutes', or 'thodi der baad'. When the job is done, say 'done' and the reminder is closed.

Examples for work and for home

1. For work

Work reminders are often small and urgent: 'Friday 4 pm, send the invoice to Mehta', 'Tuesday 11 am, ask the vendor about the samples', 'on the 5th, send salary sheet to the CA'. A shop owner can say 'har mahine ki 7 tareekh ko GST ka yaad dilana'. These are things you will not remember if you are busy, and a late one can cost money.

A shop owner can also use reminders for money coming in: 'Gupta ji se payment Thursday ko maangna hai, Thursday 11 baje yaad dilana'. A sales person can use them for calls: 'Monday 10 am, call Priya about the demo'. If you also want to track who has not replied, see how in How to Never Miss a Follow-Up on WhatsApp.

2. Medicine

This is the one families ask for most. 'Har subah 8 baje dadi ki dawai.' A repeating reminder every day, at the same time, saves a lot of worry. Set it once, and it keeps coming until you say stop.

3. Bills and fees

Electricity, school fees, insurance, phone recharge. Put each one on its date: 'har mahine ki 5 tareekh bijli ka bill', 'har mahine ki 10 tareekh school fees'. Late fees disappear.

4. Birthdays and dates

Tuffy also remembers dates you tell it. You can keep birthdays and anniversaries in its memory and see them, change them, or make it forget them from the website.

Nani ka birthday 3 December ko hai, 2 December ko yaad dilana
Tuffy
Noted. Nani ka birthday 3 December ko hai, ye maine yaad rakh liya. 2 December ko main aapko yaad dilaunga.

What a reminder is not

Be clear about this so you are not surprised. A reminder from Tuffy arrives as a message in your 'Message yourself' chat. It is not a loud alarm. If you must wake up at 5 am for a train, keep using your phone alarm. For everything else, from the call you promised to the bill you want to pay, a reminder in the chat where the work lives is easier than a separate app.

Also, a reminder is for you. Tuffy never sends anything to another person without your yes. If you want it to write a message to your supplier, it shows you the exact words and the name first.
